#TCM Greatest Classic Films Collection: Comedy (Arsenic and Old Lace / A Night at the Opera / The Long Long Trailer / Father of the Bride 1950)# Best Cheap Discount Sales Reviews
Product Overview
ARSENIC AND OLD LACE Cary Grant and a stellar cast romp through this classic farce based on the Broadway hit and breezily directed by Frank Capra. A frazzled drama critic’s two maiden aunts put a secret ingredient in their elderberry wine – and the resulting circus is howlingly hilarious, with a comically rubber-faced, rubber-legged Grant in the center ring. A NIGHT AT THE OPERA Grand opera equals grand comedy as the Marx Brothers cram a ship’s stateroom and more with wall-to-wall gags, one-liners, musical riffs and two hard-boiled eggs – all while skewering pompous schemes to sabotage an opera production. “Arguably their finest film” (4 Star Rating! – Leonard Maltin’s Movie Guide). THE LONG, LONG TRAILER Anyone know how to park this thing? Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz play newlyweds who hit the honeymoon road with a 40-foot house trailer in tow in this slaphappily-ever-after comedy directed by Vincente Minnelli. FATHER OF THE BRIDE (1950) Spencer Tracy is the father and Elizabeth Taylor the bride in this comic celebration of an American rite (and wrongs) of passage. Here comes the bride, there goes dad’s wallet…and everyone’s heart. What sparkling fun!

#TCM Greatest Classic Films Collection: Broadway Musicals (Show Boat / Annie Get Your Gun / Kiss Me Kate / Seven Brides for Seven Brothers)# Best Cheap Discount Sales Reviews
With all due respect to the 3 talented leading ladies in these 4 films, Kathryn Grayson twice, Betty Hutton and Jane Powell, it’s hard to concentrate on anyone else when Howard Keel appears on screen. With his divine voice, handsome face and terrific physique (only improved by wearing tights in Kiss Me Kate), he simply takes over every scene in which he makes an entrance. These films are 4 of the very best Broadway musicals ever translated to the big screen – and what a pleasure to watch Howard Keel lend his immense talent to 4 very different roles, each one a treat in itself. He may be gone, but he’ll never be forgotten!
Product Overview
SHOW BOAT (1951) A vivid and vibrant saga of riverboat lives and loves has glorious stars (Kathryn Grayson, Ava Gardner, Howard Keel, Marge and Gower Champion) in Technicolor radiance, timeless Jerome Kern/Oscar Hammerstein II songs and an equally timeless outcry against racial bigotry. Like Ol’ Man River, its delights just keep rollin’ along. ANNIE GET YOUR GUN Betty Hutton (as Annie Oakley) and Howard Keel (as Frank Butler) star in this sharpshootin’ funfest an Oscar winner for adaptation scoring based on the Broadway smash boasting Irving Berlins beloved songs, including Doin’ What Comes Naturally, I Got Lost in His Arms and the anthemic There’s No Business like Show Business. SEVEN BRIDES FOR SEVEN BROTHERS The perfect marriage of song and dance! Backwoods boys inspired by romance and the lure of hot biscuits raid the local town for brides. Un-uh: The would-be brides insist the fellas first become respectable! Howard Keel and Jane Powell head a leaping whoop for joy in this exuberant Oscar winner. KISS ME KATE When squabbling ex-married’s Kathryn Grayson and Howard Keel are cast as squabbling Renaissance romantics in a musical The Taming of the Shrew, life imitates art, art imitates life and it all proves no musical comedy imitates this backstage/onstage delight from the Broadway hit with 14 peerless Cole Porter songs. It’s all Too Darn Hot!

A Wonderful Collection – dirty dave –
My daughter is an accomplished vocalist, and I’ve been exposing her to the old musicals since she was a child. I bought this collection primarily for “Annie Get Your Gun”, but the other three are great fun as well. In fact, we just watched, “Seven Brides for Seven Brothers”, last night. For me, musicals never get old.

A great value! – J. Michalowski –
If you’re a fan of classic movies, this set offers an outstanding value. Each movie plays perfectly with excellent color and sound. At this price you really can’t afford not to add these four movies to your collection.

Very Please ! ! ! – Cory D –
Shipment was quick. Very good experience. *** Only bad item is that I want to buy wide screen versions. One is the others are not.***

Be aware – RFCann – Ramsgate
Please be aware when purchasing this DVD that those of us who live in the UK can only watch the Kiss me Kate and 7 brides dvd (Which are great) the other one can only be played on a different regional format
And in this respect it is therefore very disappointing

#TCM Greatest Classic Films Collection: Murder Mysteries (The Maltese Falcon / The Big Sleep / Dial M for Murder / The Postman Always Rings Twice 1946)# Best Cheap Discount Sales Reviews
This is an amazing set of four great movies and for a decent price. “Dial M for Murder” appears to have been remastered, and cleaned up, and really looks fantastic. The colors are rich and vibrant and the blacks are deep. “The Big Sleep” though, is not remastered, and has dust spots on the negative. Also, the left side of the frame sometimes appears dull and lacks the deep blacks seen on the right side of the frame. “The Postman Always Rings Twice” also has dust spots, though “The Maltese Falcon” appears to be clean.
I was surprised to also see that each film has many special features, including interviews with other directors, film historians, or archival experts. The packaging is basic but it does the job with a movie on each side of two discs in a DVD case. This set is an excellent buy.
Product Overview
THE MALTESE FALCON Some high-living lowlifes want to get their sweaty hands on a bejeweled falcon. Detective Sam Spade (Humphrey Bogart) wants to find out why – and who’ll take the fall for his pertner’s murder. Sydney Greenstreet, Mary Astor, Peter Lorre and Elisha Cook Jr. co-star in a crackling masterwork directed and written for the screen by John Huston. THE BIG SLEEP (1946) L.A. private eye Philip Marlowe (Humphrey Bogart) takes on a blackmail case…and wears out his gumshoes trailing murderers, nightclub rogues, the spoiled rich and more. Lauren Bacall joins Bogart under Howard Hawks’ brisk and atmospheric direction of an ace adaptation of Raymond Chandler’s novel. DIAL M FOR MURDER Alfred Hitchcock’s screen version of Frederick Knott’s stage hit casts Grace Kelly, Ray Milland and Robert Cummings as points of a romantic triangle. She loves Cummings; her husband Milland plots her murder. But when he dials a Mayfair exchange to set the plot in motion, his right number gets the wrong answer! THE POSTMAN ALWAYS RINGS TWICE (1946) Based on the novel by James M. Cain (Double Indemnity, Mildred Pierce), this quintessential film noir stars John Garfield and Lana Turner as illicit lovers who botch a first attempt to bump off her husband, pull it off and betray each other at trial. Amorous attractions never proved so fatal as in this steamy, stormy classic.

5 Stars for the Films, 3 for the Packaging – Angela Wilson – Midwest
I bought this set because I LOVE the films in it – and it was very inexpensive. I bought it despite the fact that these were on double-sided discs – which never last as long and tend to have a lot of problems with skipping and locking up.
While the films themselves were great (I prefer them on full screen), the packaging was not. The first disc is in a hard plastic sleeve that slams against the second disc, which is attached to the back of the plastic jacket. The second disc had scratches on it when it arrived NEW. I had to clean it twice before it would play without skipping. This would not be an issue if they did not used double-sided discs. I won’t buy any more of these sets because of that. They are priced great, but I’d rather get collections that don’t get scratched right out of the factory.

Great MOVIES – G. Cahill – St Peters, MO United States
The “GENIUS” before me ruins the rating for this great compilation. He only gives 1 star! His lone reason? The movies aren’t “letterboxed”. Hello, Einstein… these movies were NOT filmed in the “widescreen” format. Their aspect ratio is pretty much that of a standard TV show from the 60’s or 70’s. Sometimes, the “folks” use this medium to decide on a purchase. It would be a lo-down dirty shame if someone misses out on these wonderfull films because some @X#X%X has NO clue what he is writing about. These are all fantastic movies! In ANY format! Shame on YOU, BRADW!!!

Not letterboxed! – bradley a wright – Seattle
I started to buy this set and then realized the movies were all “full screened” and not reduced or letterboxed. You lose 25% of the picture and a lot of the ambiance. Not good for Noir films, or any film for that matter.
Shame on TCM! Wait until they come out in letterbox!
